Frequently Asked Questions About Knife Sharpening
How do I sharpen a serrated blade?
GATCO has several products for sharpening serrated blades. A serration sharpening hone is included in the Edgemate and Diamond Professional Knife Sharpening Systems. When used with the GATCO Easy-Grip clamp/angle guide, this specially designed triangular shaped hone easily sharpens each serration. Serration hones can also be purchased individually. Also see How to sharpen with a Serration Hone.
The GATCO triangular-shaped, portable ceramic and diamond TRI-SEPS¨ sharpeners can also be used to easily sharpen serrated blades.
How do I know what angle to use?
GATCO has attached easy-to-follow, full-color sharpening instructions to the custom case lids of each of their sharpening systems which include an angle reference guide chart. Generally, the lesser the sharpening angle (15 or 19 degrees), the finer the edge. Blades used for heavier cutting chores require more of an angle (25 or 29 degrees). Twenty-two degrees is a good choice for all-purpose cutlery.
